Backyard Screening Time: Rock and Roll Fantasy!

Its that time again ladies and gentlemen, the boys of "Gay Gardens" invite you to another fun filled screening night at our house under the stars! This time we're taking no prisoners in our quest for Rock and Roll. Its time to hang out, lose control, rock out, drink up, and strap on a guitar cause we're bringing your "Rock & Roll Fantasy!" to life!

Our Feature Presentations:

Pre-show: "Heavy Metal Parking Lot" (1986)

A hilarious short documentary that truly gives us an impression of what it meant to be a metal fan in the 80's. Join us in the parking lot of a Judas Priest concert to observe such fans in their natural habitat.

"Ladies & Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains" (1981)

Corrine Burns (Diane Lane) retreats far into plans for her band, The Fabulous Stains, after her mother's death. So far that she books them on a tour with a washed-out glam-rock group and a rising British punk band, radically changes her appearance, attracts a cult following and national media attention. With luck like this, what could go wrong? Come check out both Diane Lane and Laura Dern in their first big roles on the silver screen and get a taste of what the Punk era was all about.

"The Phantom of the Paradise" (1974)

A Brian De Palma rock opera that is part Phantom of the Opera and part Faust. Record producer Swan steals both the music and the girl from composer Leach. After a terrible accident, disfigured Leach plans revenge on Swan and his rock palace, The Paradise, and becomes The Phantom. "He's been maimed and framed, beaten, robbed and mutilated. But they still can't keep him from the woman he loves." (Little known tid-bit: Sissy Spacek is credited as "set dresser" for this film, assisting her boyfriend (now husband) Jack Fisk, who was the film's production designer.)

Mid-Night Snack: "Tommy" (1975)

A psychosomatically deaf, dumb and blind boy becomes a master pinball player and the object of a religious cult. A veritable who's who of the 70's rock scene, this film was out of this world and ahead of its time. Join us in the midnight hour for the best exploration of The Who you will ever see.

Again, all who wish to attend are welcome. If you want to come and need directions etc. let me know! As always, films are subject to change.

When: Saturday, September 20th doors are open after 6:30 and our features should begin around 7pm depending on the sunset.
Where: Gay Gardens. Come right on through the gate, we're in the backyard.
Who: You and your friends are all welcome. The more the merrier at these events.
How: Please bring a lawn chair if you have one, some booze or whatever you want to drink, maybe a snack and certainly a sense of humor. We look forward to seeing you all!

Retarded but fun

So the screening went well. We had a smaller crowd than usual, but the typical horrifying fare hit the screen and some serious fun ensued. If you missed the show, you missed out. I have to say, The Hottie & The Nottie was perfectly terrible and ending the night with "Polyester" was sheer genius. I think i'm officially "tarded out."

Backyard Screening Time! "Tard-Sploitation!"

Its that time again ladies and gentlemen, the boys of "Gay Gardens" invite you to another fun filled screening night at our house under the stars! This time it is really "Special." We're taking a no holds barred look at the film industry's love of playing "retarded" in every sense of the word. Its time to hang out, drink up, strap on a padded helmet and ride the short bus cause we're giving you a full dose of "TARD-SPLOITATION!"

Our Feature Presentations:

Riding The Bus With My Sister (2005)

"Rachel Simon rode buses for a year with her sister Beth, who has developmental disabilities--the journey changed their lives forever..." Come see the touching moment when Rosie O'Donnell channeled Animal from the Muppets to play a retarded person. You can see the horror in Andie MacDowell's eyes as she realizes she is stuck in the most challenging and terrible roll since "Green Card" as Rosie's Sister Rachel. If anyone would have handed her something sharp on set it either would have gone into Rosie's brain or her own jugular. This is a can't miss movie event!

Then:

A movie montage experience of some of your favorite actors playing "retarded" and laughing all the way to the bank! See hilarious clips from such great flops as Juliet Lewis in "The Other Sister," Cuba Gooding Jr. as "Radio," Sean Penn tarding it up in "I Am Sam," and the list goes on and on...

And to finish:

The Hottie & The Nottie (2008)

With all the backlash against celebutard Paris Hilton, this little film tanked big time this past Spring with only $27,966 on its opening weekend, with each theater averaging $249. The plot is your basic ugly duckling tale where the hot girl has an ugly best friend who's personality wins over the hot guy more than her looks and he can finally see the beauty inside. Join us as we have a few cocktails and laugh at the "acting" of our most famous retard ever: PARIS HILTON. Bring a gas mask and anything you can to protect yourself from the hideous STD cocktail that she is.

Again, all who wish to attend are welcome. If you want to come and need directions etc. let me know! As always, films are subject to change.

When: Saturday, July 19th doors are open after 7:30 and our features should begin around 8pm.
Where: Gay Gardens... Come right on through the gate, we're in the backyard. Write or call me for directions...
Who: You and your friends are all welcome. The more the merrier at these events.
How: Please bring a lawn chair if you have one, some booze or whatever you want to drink, maybe a snack and certainly a sense of humor. We look forward to seeing you all!

Gays and Dolls: Beyond Camp

Broadway may not go for Booze and Dope, but Hollywood does! Brace yourselves because our backyard is going to be filled with pill popping party girls this March the 29th. Its that time again ladies and gentlemen, the boys of Gay Gardens invite you to another fun filled screening night under the stars! This time with with a more intoxicating style. Its time to gay it up, booze it up, slap a few people, and run like hell either from a deranged drug addled psychopath, or just ourselves... Liza, Neely, Anne, The Carrie Nations, and maybe even Nomi.... The gangs all here. Pop a pill, and sit back for a night of fun and camp.

Pre-show starts at 7pm: "Liza With A Z" (1972)

Liza Minnelli stars in a television concert directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse from 1972. She performs such songs as the title number, "Liza with a 'Z'" and "Son of a Preacher Man". The concert concludes with a medley of songs from the film Cabaret and countless numbers to raise your gay-meter. This is a must see for one and all regardless of what you thought of her mother.

Our Feature Presentations:

"Valley of the Dolls" (1967)

A cinematic take on a 1960s best-seller, Valley of the Dolls traces the ups and downs of three young women as fame, booze, pills, and men consume their lives.

"Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" (1970)

A hip and happenin' all girl rock group head to LA to claim lead-singer Kelly's inheritance and make it (and make it) in LA. They immediately fall under the spell of rock'n'roll Svengali, the 'Teen Tycoon' of rock Ronnie 'Z-Man' Barzell, and other rapacious Hollywood party types as lustful porno actress Ashley St Ives, ravenous lesbian Roxanne and shady lawyer Porter Hall. Soon the girls fall into a morass of drugs and deceit as their recording success soars. It takes several tragedies to make them stop and think... but is it too late? This is a sequel only in name to its predecessor, and was actually written by film critic Roger Ebert.

Possible Mid-night snack: "Showgirls" (1995)

Nomi Malone sets out for Las Vegas to become a showgirl. After working as a stripper, she gets her big break at a chorus line audition for the Stardust Casino production, 'Goddess.' She soon finds out that 'showbiz' is a rough-and-tumble world--is she tough enough to claw her way to the top? And if so, is it really worth it?

Again, all who wish to attend are welcome. If you want to come and need directions etc. let me know! As always, films are subject to change.

When: Saturday March 29th The pre-show will start promptly at 7pm.
How: Contact me if you need info. Please bring a lawn chair if you have one, some booze or whatever you want to drink, and a sense of humor. We'll have the fire pit going as usual and look forward to seeing you all!

Reminder: "Twisted Love" screening 2/9/08

Just a friendly reminder to one and all, The Backyard Screening this Saturday is ON! It looks like the weather will comply and we are set for another crazy evening under the stars.

The festivities will begin at 7pm. Please remember to wear warm clothing, bring whatever ya want to munch on or drink, and as seating can get sparse if you have a few lawn chairs feel free to bring those too.

The first feature we had planned "Private Parts" is going to be substituted with a different and more exciting film for your enjoyment..... "Smiley Face." Sorry if we dashed your dreams, but you'll thank us.

Basic plot: After a young actress unknowingly eats her roommate's pot cupcakes, her day becomes a series of misadventures. You can't go wrong with a film that includes Anna Faris and some crazy pot misunderstandings. According to a few people I know expect to laugh your ass off!

Can't wait to see you all there!

Feel free to suggest what you think might be a great double feature night, as we're always trying to outdo ourselves! For those of you who missed it, your bad... but we wish ya coulda made it.

Drive on in!

Well, the party/ screening last weekend was a huge success! Not a ton of people made it, but we still got a chance to try out our idea and see just how great it works. The large white wall in our backyard was where we projected both The Apple and Can't Stop the Music.... we even made it a triple feature by throwing in "Switchblade Sisters." (See the trailer below. Thanks go to Mark for a great last minute addition and fantastic projector.) For those of you who want to take part in our splendid backyard screening series, save the date October 20th, as that will be the day we screen the entire original showing of "Grindhouse" by Rodriguez and Tarantino complete with fake trailers by such gore greats as Eli Roth. We have plenty of seating and standing room, just bring yo'selves and maybe som licka! Poster and official email invite to follow...
