Ok, this made my morning...

Reminder: "Twisted Love" screening 2/9/08

Just a friendly reminder to one and all, The Backyard Screening this Saturday is ON! It looks like the weather will comply and we are set for another crazy evening under the stars.

The festivities will begin at 7pm. Please remember to wear warm clothing, bring whatever ya want to munch on or drink, and as seating can get sparse if you have a few lawn chairs feel free to bring those too.

The first feature we had planned "Private Parts" is going to be substituted with a different and more exciting film for your enjoyment..... "Smiley Face." Sorry if we dashed your dreams, but you'll thank us.

Basic plot: After a young actress unknowingly eats her roommate's pot cupcakes, her day becomes a series of misadventures. You can't go wrong with a film that includes Anna Faris and some crazy pot misunderstandings. According to a few people I know expect to laugh your ass off!

Can't wait to see you all there!

Bai Ling is from another planet...

One of the best things about my morning is listening to Indie 103.1 and hearing some of the interviews with the people they manage to snag. This morning, many of my preconcieved notions were confirmed about the actress/ singer/ freak Bai Ling. Something I didn't expect was to be pleasantly surprised by her presence and her intellect. Bai Ling has been more of a joke to me with her bizarre fashions and laughable singing stint on reality TV, but this interview showed a deeper side of her. She was quite playful and strange as expected, but she spoke wonderfully about her role in the new movie "Southland Tales" from the director Richard Kelly. I have to say, all her "I'm from another planet" speech aside, I really think I like her now. And I was even more enthused to hear that one of my favorite books "Shanghai Baby" has been made into a feature film with her in the main role. She is perfect for this character, and I can't wait to see it. I hear through the grapevine it has yet to get a formal release date here in the US, but I expect it will be Spring of 2008 when we get a chance to see it. Bus Stop 1956

I just finished watching an old sentimental favorite of mine called "Bus Stop" starring Marilyn Monroe and Don Murray. It's a sweet film about a cowboy looking for his "angel" and finding it in a half rate chanteuse in a bar in Arizona. After proposing, he abducts her and sets off for home, a ranch in Montana. I much prefer the orginal stage play to this film as far as script and structure, but this is one of Marilyn's better performances and is not to be missed. Perhaps its my sentimental mood is setting in with Fall's arrival, or I have a need to settle down and nuzzle in for the long winter, or perhaps I even just want to be abducted a little myself, but I had a great time revisiting this movie.

Double Feature Saturday!

Thanks to my video savvy friend Mark, we are having a double feature screening in my backyard this weekend! Two campy movies, some popcorn, some booze, and some bitchiness..... it's gonna be rad!

The man in the moon is a bitch...

Last night I was feeling a little down, a bit overwhelmed and in general.....just kinda blah. Whenever these moods strike it tends to be "My time of the month." It was a bit more than that, but usually the best solution is to work on cravings and impulse. On the way home I got 2 cravings I haven't had in forever: Tommy's Burger and a Musical. I thought the combo might bring me back to the happy place. I swung a right on the 2 Freeway to Eagle Rock (not far at all from my house though it always seems further) and got myself that big greasy gross yumminess in a bag, sped home and popped in Auntie Mame....sadly not the musical version, but the very well written Play version/ turned film starring Rosalind Russell. It suited me just fine, I didn't need that terrible act 2 song "Mame" anyhow and Rosalind was just bitchy enough to fit the bill. All the hair going on in that film too was just a hoot.

I fell in love with Auntie Mame as a story when my mom read it to me as a kid, and after watching it last night, I think alot of my wit and attitude comes from exposure to that character at a young age. My mother seems alot like her as well, minus all the world travel. Perhaps it was just osmosis, and the fact my mother always loved to say that great grinding teeth line Rosalind delivered to her Nephew's Fiance Gloria, "Little Glorieeeeeeeeee!" I think Mame and her crazy friends would fit in just fine with my family,

Ok so i'm bored today at "have a tard" and photoshop can be fun when you just toss out an idea and run with it. It's a little wrong but sadly, I could even see someone pitching this idea someday...you just never know... Imagine how bad Hillary would smell after all those years!

Worst Movies Ever

Ok this one is old, but it's pretty great.

Oh my god, today is another day where the boredom has set in so strongly that I need to be anywhere but here. I am hating this job and at least it is starting to well up inside me and inspire some true motivation to do something new....better....closer to what I have a frickin degree in!

Naturally, these feelings make me think about death. Therefore today I spent a nice chunk looking into Spontaneous Combustion. I have always wondered if this was real and or possible, but I have concluded for myself......I'm so bored I need to believe in something so it is 100% real. I found some fun photoshop images, real photos from newspaper archives, picture stills from Films....all has been truly fascinating. One account had a woman burst into blue flames on a dance floor in the 30's and it made me laugh truly hard for the first time today.






Oh yeah, and I really need to see this hilarious film this weekend if I can find a damn place that is showing it. Anyone up for it? (I am working with a certain company that created it on "Have a tard" and it looks pretty over the top.)

Night of the Comet

Amazing 80's gem of a film. It has Zombies, a great shopping montage, Valley Girls, bitchy lines, and of course a coupla good slaps. Check this movie out if you haven't ever seen it. (Thanks to Mark for tipping me off to this one.) Here's a great clip from the beginning of the film...

The Ghost Theater

This movie trailer for the Korean film "The Ghost Theater" looked kinda scary, and potentially good......well until the song and dance numbers with that Rocky Horror rip-off started. Then I just knew it was destined to be a broadway musical within the year.... I smell a Tony award!
